Schools Out for the Summer

Evan is officially done with Kindergarten! He rocked this school year. I am so proud of him and all he has learned. He ended the year by learning 1st grade math (clearly not from my gene pool). He loves school and his teacher Mrs. McCue. He never once said he didn't want to go to school, which as a parent, is all we can ask for.

Last day donuts

Lucy is 8 months old and sweet as can be. She is working on her two bottom teeth. She can almost crawl and is so much fun.

Being a Working Parent

I often get asked, probably more days than not, how I do it. I've read a great article that sums up everything I've ever thought about that question.

My girlfriends and I, (Nick gets to hear his share too) over many glasses (ok bottles) of wine, have talked at great length about what the best of both worlds is as a parent and wanting a career. Starting our own business, reducing our hours at our current jobs, staying home and nothing seems right. Being a parent is hard enough, without worrying about working the appropriate amount of hours, according to someone in your department who has NO idea that you have been up since 5:30 a.m. with your kids, and you are just getting into the office. You feel like you are letting everyone around you down, all day, every day.

Nick is a great dad, spouse and employee, probably the best there is in my opinion. When we are together with the kids no one ever asks him, how do you do it? Or gosh it must be hard to be a working dad. All questions, 100% are directed to me. So in turn, I feel like I have to answer, really defend, why we choose to work and have three kids, how do I do it, why do I do it, and it makes me second, third guess everything I do every day.

I love my job, thankfully. I have the ability to see my kids when I want as they are at the daycare onsite at work. What a blessing this has been for me over the past 6 years. I'm not sure I could have stayed where I am without it. Just today I got to rock Lucy to sleep and head back to work. Do you know what a stress reliever that is for a parent?! I only can wish for every parent to have this, although I know it isn't a reality for most.

I know my kids are happy. I know my kids love me. I know my family is safe and well off. But I don't know if what I am doing each day is the right thing. Only time will tell if coming to work each day was the right thing to do, but for now I can say my family is doing ok, actually they are pretty fun and happy (most days) and I don't want to share this journey with anyone else but them.

I have great examples in my life of wonderful mothers, I'm probably biased but mine is the best.

From our little corner of the world to yours. Happy Mother's Day to all the mamas out there from me to you.You are doing a GREAT job.
I'll always be the first to give you high five buddy.
