Reason for the Blog

The reason we started our blog was to share the great news of our new "Baby Varcoe" that would be joining our lives in 2009.  Because Evan was so fun to write about, we decided that we would continue the blog for the reason it was intended.

Evan is going to be a big brother!  We are due October 7, 2011. We have had two doctors appointments so far and baby is doing great. This little one is very nice to mommy. Evan and I didn't get along in the first couple of months, but this baby and I are doing great.

Baby's heartbeat was 162 at my last appointment on March 29.

Just over 11 weeks...
14 weeks with Evan
Besides the tiredness, still I blame Evan, and bouts of feeling full when I haven't eaten anything, things are going great. I am almost 13 weeks so if all goes as planned, which nothing ever does, we will welcome our new baby at the end of September or early October with a scheduled c-section.

You may remember, Evan again didn't feel like coming on his own so we had to endure a long process to get him here. The doctors don't want to take any unnecessary risks this time.  This way Grandma Lois and Grandpa Steve can "plan" who is watching Evan, Lou and Fiona:)

We told our family and friends at Evan's birthday party on March 19.
We also got to Skype with Eric in Afghanistan to tell him the good news. He was so excited he put a message on Facebook before we had told work, other friends, etc. so were able to have him take it down in 10 minutes:) Nothing like my boss seeing it on Facebook before I was able to tell her. I still haven't made the official Facebook announcement, probably will wait awhile. I wanted to make sure our family and friends knew before they see it out for the world.

Birthday party!

We celebrated Evan's 2nd birthday a little early over the weekend so our families could all be there. He is a very lucky little boy. Dora was the main theme this year, can't fight his love for her.

Kids table monitored by Erin and Angie.
Evan the prince at his own table watching Dora.
Dora, Diego and Boots birthday cake.
Grandmas "trying" to put together Handy Manny power wheels car. Handle bars were on the wrong way first time around.
Evan waiting patiently to drive his new car.
Finally it is ready to go!
Nick, Evan and Amy on birthday party day.
Grandparents and us at the party.
Grandma Lois getting 2 minutes of snuggle time with Evan.
Ben, show me your belly.
Ok just hold the ball and I will hit it over and over with my bat.

Thanks Aunt Erin for the Dora "bag/purse." This is awesome! He would give her kisses a lot.
(I put trucks and cars in it to make it a little more manly.)
Lining up my new cars and animals from my birthday party.
Dad brought me to see a digger! They brought it by our house just for my birthday party!
(We had to drive by it on our way to school as well.)

A huge thank you to all our family and friends for helping us celebrate. We even got to Skype with Uncle Eric from Afghanistan. I am sure we will celebrate again on his acutal birthday, April 3. His mom does love her birthday month so why not Evan too?!

We also went to Grandpa and Grandma Wieland's house in Indianola for dinner.  We quickly realized he loves "wahter". Life jackets are a must in our future by the pond. He is quick! He loves to look for fishies, ride on the tractor and play with Uncle Eric's old John Deere tractor toys. He will love playing there this summer.

Love,
Nick, Amy and Evan

A Star is born

My co-worker Erin asked if Evan would be their "2-3 year old boy" in a series of ads for Blank Children's Hospital.  He did great, and his doctor was so patient. This is actually his real doctor that we just love, Dr. Jennifer Groos.

What you don't see if Erin and I jumping up and down, singing Dora and giving him a million Dora stickers to get him to cooperate. Also about an hour after the photo shoot the poor little thing ended up being sick for 3 days. He was such a trooper and made us very proud:)

We have his 2 year old pictures in a couple of weeks, hopefully he will do just as well.

No no kitty

Evan has found a new love for Lou. He loves to head butt him, hold his tail a little longer than he should and slowly run after him saying "no no". He says no no because he thinks Lou looks like Swiper from Dora and that is what everyone says to Swiper, no no Swiper.

I see a resemblance.

The other day Lou was on top of our cupboards and Evan had to get his step stool over to tell Lou to get down.

Hey buddy, get down.
Mom will you make him come down?

Evan also learned how to do a somersault at gymnastics. He actually does pretty well, I am impressed. He can do it without much help now at home too.
Oh the ball...again this love better pay off in the long run.

Evan, like every other kid, has been fighting the sickness the past week. But I think we are on the rebound with some good antibiotics. Here is evidence of what some Tylenol and antibiotics can do for a sick little boy.

Boots, Darth Vader shirt and no pants, why not?!
I am going to get you mama!

His vocabulary is really coming out lately. We aren't sure everything that he says, but he sure is talking a lot.

Some new words he says:
1. Yellow - doesn't know his colors just says them
2. Orange
3. Two - everything is two, one is two, three is two, etc. so when I ask how old is in in a month he will be really smart:)
4. Boots (not really new, but he is obsessed)

Some of his favorite things right now:
1. Dora  - hands down, obsessed
2. Fire Truck - wee woos
3. playing outside when it is nice enough, we are ready for spring
4. Austin (Austy) Drew, Harper (Arper) - says his friends name's from school every day when we are going there
5. brushing his teeth - new profession might be a dentist, makes us do it with him. Says choo-choo because there is a train on his toothpaste.

Here is to a busy and fun March before Evan officially turns two.

Love,
Nick, Amy and Evan (guest appearance by Lou)
