Why Mommy?

I love Evan with all my heart. He is in the "Why" stage of his life.

This is a brief synopsis of our drive each morning and night: (and he has eyes like a hawk so I have to be paying attention)

Why is that car there? (any parked/stalled/broken down car)
Where is that car going? (we pass thousands of cars on the way to and from school/work)
What is the -insert truck- doing? (cement, garbage, etc.)
Why are we going this way? (if we don't follow the same route home) (my standard answer is too many cars that way) and he is ok with that answer

The follow up question - But Why Mommy? Um, I am not sure...but Why Mommy. Don't worry he will ask until you tell him, so I have learned just answer him.

So I answer those questions to the best of my ability. It is about 25-30 minutes each way so we have plenty of time to talk and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I came across this post from a blog and I had to remind myself of this and DO IT.

Answer him when he asks, "Why?"
Answer him, or search for the answer together.  Show him the places to look for the answers (like his dad, or grandparents, or his aunts/uncles, or his books, or valid internet searches).  Pose the question to him so he can begin thinking about answers himself.  Someday, when he needs to ask questions he's too embarrassed to ask you - he'll know where to go to find the right answers.

Here is the whole post about Mother's and Sons. http://studerteam.blogspot.com/2011/11/25-rules-for-mothers-of-sons.html

I love you Evan Nicholas for being you!

Love,
Mommy
